Last May, two environmentalists tried to shut down a power plant by preventing a boatload of coal from reaching it. Last week, a Massachusetts district attorney compounded their crime: He denied the victims justice because he agreed that their business—coal power—was a menace.

 

In doing so, he betrayed the role that a prosecutor is supposed to play—that of a defender of individuals' rights.
